The World Transplant Games are taking place in Gateshead, Newcastle between 17 – 23 August 2019.
At Shire Aggregates, we are always keen to support local events and when the opportunity came up to support the World Transplant Games, it was a perfect fit.
We have supplied around 60 tonnes, (around three wagon loads), of 0/4mm limestone grit, free of charge, for the Petanque competition, which takes place outside the iconic Sage Gateshead. Having consulted with Pentanque UK about the optimum surface for the event, the limestone grit was sourced from the Yorkshire Dales.
At Shire Aggregates we have a personal connection with organ transplantation, with valued employee Colin Heaney undergoing a kidney transplant three years ago. Having worked with Colin in the office we have seen first hand the life-changing effect receiving his new kidney has had on him, and since he has been able to live an active lifestyle and plays golf regularly. We are proud to support the World Transplant Games and are looking forward to watching the athletes compete – especially in the Petanque.
Petanque is sponsored by PHA UK (Pulmonary Hypertension Association UK.
Athletes will compete in both men’s and women’s singles and doubles Petanque at the Games which take place between Saturday 17 and Friday 23 August. The petanque competition takes place on Sunday 18 August (singles) and Monday 19 August (doubles).
